The Program Coordinator serves as the chief administrator and highest-level leader of the Lumen Regiment Marching Band. This role is responsible for the overall direction, operation, and management of the ensemble and ensures that Lumen Regiment functions as a structured, professional, and mission-driven program.
Within Lumen Regiment, the Program Coordinator holds primary authority over program-level decisions, standards, and operations. All instructional staff, student leadership, and day-to-day program activities operate under the guidance and oversight of the Program Coordinator.
While the Program Coordinator is the top authority within the Lumen Regiment Marching Band itself, the role operates within the broader organizational structure of the South Bay Youth Performing Arts (SBYPA). The Program Coordinator reports to senior leadership within SBYPA’s Program Division and works in coordination with the Executive Division to ensure alignment with organizational policies, strategic goals, and administrative standards.
This structure allows Lumen Regiment to maintain strong internal leadership while remaining accountable to SBYPA as the governing organization.
The Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Lumen Regiment Marching Band, including but not limited to the following:
Providing overall leadership and strategic direction for the ensemble
Establishing and enforcing musical, behavioral, and participation standards
Overseeing instructional staff, support staff, and student leadership
Coordinating auditions, membership selection, and seasonal planning
Serving as the primary liaison between Lumen Regiment and South Bay Youth Performing Arts (SBYPA)
Reporting program operations, needs, and developments to SBYPA’s Program Division
Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and expectations set by SBYPA’s Executive Division
Supporting a safe, inclusive, and educational environment for all members
Representing Lumen Regiment in communications with families, partners, and external organizations
Through this role, the Program Coordinator ensures that Lumen Regiment Marching Band operates with clarity, accountability, and professionalism while contributing to the broader mission and long-term goals of the South Bay Youth Performing Arts. In some seasons, the Program Coordinator may also serve in an instructional capacity, depending on staffing needs and program structure. When applicable, instructional responsibilities remain distinct from the Program Coordinator’s administrative authority.
