Lumen Regiment Marching Band (LRMB) is a youth performance ensemble committed to the pursuit of musical excellence, personal discipline, and meaningful performance opportunities at a high level. The ensemble is designed for motivated young musicians who seek to challenge themselves beyond the traditional classroom setting and who are eager to grow both musically and personally through participation in a structured, performance-driven organization.
LRMB places a strong emphasis on quality, professionalism, and consistency. Members are expected to approach rehearsals and performances with focus, responsibility, and respect for the ensemble, the staff, and one another. Through regular rehearsals, detailed instruction, and real-world performance experiences, students develop not only their musical skills—such as tone production, timing, ensemble awareness, and musical interpretation—but also important life skills including time management, teamwork, accountability, and leadership.
Membership in Lumen Regiment is selective and determined through an audition process. Auditions allow the instructional staff to assess each prospective member’s musical foundation, readiness, and ability to meet the physical and mental demands of a marching and performance-based ensemble. This process ensures that all accepted members are placed in an environment where they can be successful, contribute positively to the group, and benefit fully from the ensemble experience.
The musical and physical expectations of LRMB require a baseline level of prior experience. Rehearsals involve extended playing, movement, memorization, and attention to detail, all of which demand preparation and commitment. By maintaining audition-based membership standards, Lumen Regiment is able to create a focused, cohesive ensemble that delivers confident, polished, and engaging performances for a wide range of audiences.
Ultimately, Lumen Regiment Marching Band exists to provide young musicians with opportunities to perform at community events, parades, and larger-scale venues while representing their ensemble with pride, professionalism, and musical integrity. Acceptance into LRMB signifies a commitment to excellence and a readiness to be part of a disciplined, team-oriented organization that values growth, effort, and performance at the highest level possible.
To be considered for membership in Lumen Regiment Marching Band (LRMB), prospective members must meet the following requirements:
Between the ages of 12 and 20 at the time of the season
Have a minimum of six (6) months of experience on the instrument they intend to audition with
Be able to commit to the rehearsal and performance expectations of the ensemble
Successfully pass an audition to be accepted into the ensemble
Preferred, but not required: Prior performance experience in a school band, community ensemble, parade, concert, or similar setting
Due to the musical and physical demands of a marching and performance-based ensemble, LRMB is not currently accepting complete beginners.
Membership in Lumen Regiment is selective and determined through an audition process designed to evaluate each student’s readiness to participate successfully in the ensemble.
The audition process follows these steps:
Submit an Audition Interest Form
Prospective members begin by completing a short audition interest form. This allows the LRMB staff to gather basic information such as age, instrument, and experience level, and to provide audition instructions.
Receive Audition Details
After submitting the interest form, students and families will receive information regarding audition dates, locations, and any specific preparation requirements.
Attend the Audition
Auditions are used to assess musical fundamentals, including tone quality, rhythm, technique, and overall preparedness, as well as the student’s ability to meet the expectations of a marching ensemble.
Acceptance Notification
Students who successfully pass their audition will receive an official acceptance notification from LRMB.
Enrollment Through SBYPA
Once accepted, all registration, paperwork, and tuition are completed through South Bay Youth Performing Arts (SBYPA), the organization under which Lumen Regiment Marching Band operates.
Auditions are free of charge
Tuition, fees, and enrollment details are discussed only after acceptance
Families are never required to submit payment in order to audition.
All students must provide their own instrument for the audition.
Lumen Regiment Marching Band does not provide instruments for audition purposes. Instrument loans, when available, are reserved exclusively for students who have:
Successfully auditioned
Been officially accepted
Completed enrollment through South Bay Youth Performing Arts (SBYPA)
This policy ensures that auditions fairly and accurately reflect each student’s current level of preparation.
Limited instrument support may be available after acceptance, depending on availability and ensemble needs. These arrangements are discussed during the enrollment process.
Lumen Regiment is designed to complement students’ school band programs, not replace them. Rehearsal schedules and expectations are shared with families prior to enrollment so they can make an informed decision.
Accepted members are expected to:
Attend scheduled rehearsals and performances
Communicate conflicts in advance
Maintain a professional attitude and positive work ethic
